Mother Daughter Team
Raffaella Basini started her artistic journey in childhood tracing out dress patterns for her Nonna who was a talented Italian tailoress.
This pleasant ‘training’ began a deep love for design. Raffaella continued the journey by studying art at Tafe and then at University, achieving several qualifications in Fine Art.
While living in Karratha for five years Raffaella assisted in putting on variety concerts. In these Raffaella would be choreographer, designer, manufacturer, and performer for many dance numbers.
Directly following this for ten years Raffaella ran a large theatre company in Perth, for people with disabilities, and all costumes were designed and chiefly manufactured by Raffaella.
Early on in her design career Raffaella began collecting pieces from second hand shops. These items would be upcycled into costumes for the theatre company.
Raffaella has been involved in the fashion industry for the last 13 years, in that time she has had her pieces exhibited in many events including the Perth Royal Show three years running, sole artist for an Interflora International Convention and numerous fashion parades in Perth.
Tamar Basini started making small accessories on a sewing machine at age 14. Since then she has worked as Raffaella’s assistant learning all the design techniques passed to Raffaella by her Nonna.
Tamar has studied fashion and art at Bentley Tafe and Curtin University and has worked as a fashion model for the last 13 years. This study added to the knowledge from Raffaella giving Tamar a well-rounded sense of fashion and design. Tamar is an also accomplished knitter and machinist.
Our Philosophy
Raffaella Basini Creations unites years of experience and knowledge with youth, vitality and freshness. We pride ourselves on thinking outside the box. We use materials that are eco and organic. Rebirthing wool from lost times.
We also use silk, cotton, and linen threads. We spend time sourcing products from WA, finding items in op-shops to save, reuse, rebirth, and recycle and then create original one-off hand made designs. It’s a wonderful thing to utilize/bring back to life some item that someone has made with love for another human being. It is with sheer delight we do this labour of love.
Every step we take today is a most important step for the future survival of our planet, our loved ones, and their loved ones. We take pride in supporting and developing Australian products, unpolluted and all produced so that they will leave no unhealthy residue when they have completed their life span.
